Marble Canyon, Arizona

Winter, 2024.

//A Geology of Colour

Warm browns, oxide reds and deep lilacs,

Where the drying sand meets the mud.

Lavender & soft greys,

A canyon marbled by the test of time

Windswept dunes encased fossilized reptile tracks.

Revealing a harsh reality of life in the desert,

250 million years ago.

The basins’ low, dust stained rocks

were inviting in the cool winter's sun.

Terracotta mud stuck to our shoes.

Soap blue limestone led us down to the river Grand.

Sun tinted mauve & apricot skies,

The brightest shades of orange and blue.

As the horizon changed,

Big horned sheep lined the rim.

Their weathered silhouettes,

unmistakable,

Dancing across the skyline.
